I recently purchased a Garrett Pro Pinpointer and have been extremely happy with it. It is well built and rugged.
Using it I can isolate a target in seconds instead of poking through dirt looking for what is all too often an coin or other object layered in dirt. To use the pinpointer simply press the water proof and rubberized power button and listen for the start up beep. Insert the tip into the hole or scan around the plug until you start to hear a repeating beep sound or feel the handle start to vibrate (handy if you are wearing headphones). The closer to the object you get the faster the beeps and vibrations until you are within a centimeter or so at which point you will hear a constant tone and feel the fastest vibration. At this point you have isolated the target and the rest is easy. The pinpointer also comes with an LED light on the wand which is not too bright but handy as you are digging those last holes as night falls. This device takes one 9 volt battery. It comes with a carbon zince battery but I found that doesn't last very long and it's better to use an alkaline or better. Clean up is simple, place your thumb or finger over the speaker hole and rince under the tap. The unit is water proof except for the small opening for the speaker. A nice holster comes with it and fastens over a belt with both a snap clip and velcro. At the time of my purchase the pinpointer also comes with a bonus Garrett coin pouch. If you've never used a hand held pinpointer you will not regret this purchase. I now spend much less time hunched over my holes
