I am frustrated and need help.
This is year two detecting, I have found plenty of gold rings, silver rings, pounds upon pounds of clad... but I can't find silver coins.
I go to places where silver coins should be found. I easily find pennies from 1940's to 1960's but I can't find the silver coins. I understand they are much more rare than pennies but statistically I should have found some by now. Today alone I found a 1943 penny, 3 pennies in the 50's and 13 pennies in the 60's... but NO SILVER.
What am I doing wrong? (I am assuming that they are there, I just can't lock onto to them)
any ideas??

Well, nothing... this is also my second year detecting and I am in the same boat. Just keep at it and it will happen eventually. You have to remember that silver coins were coveted and as such will not be as widely distributed. Just keep at it it will happen sooner or later.

Wabbit is right, they are there but rare - I've found one so far. When they stopped making silver coins the banks recycled the silver coins for their silver so not as many as you would think. Even the mighty matt only finds a few and I swear he doesn't leave the house without his detector lol. Stick to finding gold rings

Josh, I have only 45-46 hours of looking but I also have been in HIGH target areas with no silver, it will happen. Keep in mind most folks didn't have alot of money and any they had was held tightly. I'm sure your doing everything correct based on your finds. Mayby your next outing you will find a silver spill. Who knows ? That's the fun of it. So as Nike says Just do it! Gottadigit.

Even the mighty matt only finds a few and I swear he doesn't leave the house without his detector lol. Stick to finding gold rings Lol too funny, keep looking they are there trust me, I found 4 silver quarters the other day, 2 on one night and 2 the following night, they were all within a 4 sq ft area, im up to 7 silver coins this year, 3 dimes and 4 quarters. look for older sites like old schools, usually if I am finding period pennies the silver is there also, typically the silver I find is deeper than the pennies they average 7-8 inches. last year I managed 30 silver dimes including 2 mercs and about a dozen quarters their are out there! just gotta keep looking. I should mention that I detect almost every night for about 4hrs and on weekends from dusk till dawn, I'm a little hardcore. lol Happy Hunting Matt
