I think a big plug is a healthy plug. The more root base you preserve the less likely the grass will die off. And as someone who's back loves to go out on him, the long handled shovel is a plus. We have permission to dig in parks so long as we fill in the hole and put the grass back the way we found it so use the tool that makes the most sense.

I respectfully disagree with the long handled shovel, it give others the perception of making a much larger hole than you actually are making, with a small proper detecting digging tool people wont even notice you are digging, remember its nice to say we have permission but all it takes is a few whiny people and it can be revoked as fast as it was given....now that being said, a bigger plug is a healthier plug like digger stated above. basically everyone need to keep their hole clean and tidy, and leave as little impact on the soil as possible. looking forward to first group hunt Happy Hunting Matt

LOL, Matt your opinion might change in 20 years when it hurts to bend over As you said, leave it the way you found it and nobody really has much to complain about. That was the result Josh and I received last year when a Bylaw Officer came about a complaint. He looked around, saw no damage and wasn't concerned. There will always be someone who complains, we can't let them determine our actions.
