Hi flawlessbee, Last summer I got my first metal detector, the Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100, from Canadian Tire at half price for $100. (reg.$200) It's a great starting detector and I've found tons of good stuff with it.(you can check out some of the things I've found with it if you want The reg. price isn't bad but if you can get it at half price it's even better. Canadian Tire also has the Bounty Hunter 2200 which is a higher model of the 1100, but it is $300. (but once again if you could get it at half price, that'd be great) -Loosecannon
PS: The picture of the 1100 on the Canadian tire website isn't what it really looks like. Search Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 on google images to see the real detector. (the head of the detector (or search coil)is in the shape of an "O" on the 1100)

Hi, check the Canadian dealer listings on this board as well. There are many different models to choose from. I would recommend something in the $200 range if you can. Take some time now to read up on the various features before you buy. Welcome to the forum.

First of all what kind of budget do you have? When I first got into detecting I bought a euroace 350 6 month later I bought an ATPRO fast forward to now and I have a CTX3030... Had I know I would have loved the hobby I should have gotten the atpro right off the bat. But that's if you have about 650$ budget

Best price I've seen for the 1100 is at Walmart. I would suggest a Technetics Euro or Garrett Ace 250 or a Fisher F2 model if you can go into the 250sh range. The 1100 is a good little detector but lacks some features you will soon want down the road such as a wider range of discrimination, pinpointing and a numeric ID scale. Personally if I was buying my first detector I would go for the Ace 250 in your price range.

Looking for my first MD and have an $800 budget. Live near Vernon in Ottawa's extreme south if your budget is 800$ then hands down get the ATpro, you will still have money left in your budget for a pinpointer after too. its the best value for your money, you will be able to go up to 10 ft underwater with it, but mostly its great when it starts raining and you don't have to pack up and leave. its a great detector!! you will not go wrong, a lot of people here use bounty hunters as first machines but in my personal opinion its an introductory machine no matter witch model you get (1100 2200 3300),,,,, had I know, or if someone would have told me when I first started detecting I would have bought the atpro right of the bat. hope this helps Matt

I have to agree with Matt, the AT Pro is considered the best machine for the price. Not just by us, you will hear this opinion all over.

Thanks for the recommendation Matt and Digger D. I was looking at the AT Gold and the Fisher Gold Bug Pro too as possible candidates. Again thanks for the help..
