Metal Dector: Discovery 2200

Using a Bounty Hunter 3300 I noticed the manual mentioned if the sensitivity was turned up to high it would pick up the minerals and iron enriched soil. I've only used it in the deep forests up at the lake and have noticed it picks up something every 5-10' ... I've started to go out and search with iron discriminated within the settings.
Anyone else find they get lots of feedback unless iron is ruled out in the settings?

My 3300 is very sensitive to iron and mineralization as well. I have used the full iron discrimination a lot but recently have been notching out just the two lower ranges leaving the Iron 3 range open. It depends in the area I'm working and what I'm looking for. But just the Iron 1 and 2 discriminated (notched) seems to get rid of most of it.

Also I'd like to mention that the more discrimination you use the less depth you will get. I guess the key here is to find the right amount of discrimination vs the sensitivity setting. I will have to play with the two the next time I'm in a area with high mineralization and see which works best (more discrimination or less sensitivity). Happy that the 3300 has both options to play with.
Also, small gold items will often appear as iron, so if you're looking for rings, jewelry, nuggets, etc... it might be better to go with less sensitivity and no discrimination. Gold nuggets of course are usually found in highly mineralized soil.
Probably best to start with a manual ground balance too.

While digging at my work grounds and around this neighborhood I find the ground severely mineralized. However, it's not a low iron sound/reading I get. It's an extremely high (199 on the Discovery 3300) ping that I get. I reduced sensitivity and set discrimination to the first 2 iron levels and I still get a 199 reading on just about every swing in some areas. Annoying, but if I go over some other target it will show instead. There is not a lot of soil in some areas before bedrock and I will often get this reading indicating 10" or deeper. I believe the bedrock contains a lot of minerals. The result is I have to use my organic discriminator
