Hi all, Just a quick question, MY father in laws machine started acting a little weird at the end of fall and I was just wondering if you had any info on where I could get his rig looked at?
Is it worth it to repair a machine or we should just buy new?
Thanks.

I don't know of any repair shops in the Ottawa region Wabbit, doubt there are any. You might want to look at the inside of the unit, maybe humidity made it's way in there. Should be pretty easy to clean up once opened.

Alright, thanks... The unit still detects metal objects but no mater what we do to calibrate the unit, it will chirp even at the lowest sensitivity setting... Don't know what that could be...

Hi wabbit, make sure the coil nut is tight and also that there isn't any loose cable near the coil. Those are metal and if they're vibrating or moving in any way could cause false hits. What make is the machine? Some manufacturers have good repair options.

Hi Wabbit, It sounds like the electrolytic capacitors have dried up. They may or may not show a visual indicator, sometimes the tops bulge and they will leak, sometime they don't. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plagueI see this a lot in dead LCD monitors, replace a few caps in the power supply and they work like new. In an LCD monitor the heat aggravates the problem, but it happens to all electrolytic capacitors over time. If it's not dried capacitors, I can probably track down the problem, electronic and embedded design is my job, I have designed a few metal detectors for fun. Michael Grant krazatchu.ca/
