(I like to use interesting size references ) Either a .44 or .45 calibre Minie Ball bullet weighing 19.6 grams used in black powder rifles found in Orlando Park on the 15th of September, 2013 Minie BallI was informed by cladlad my gun nut friend that the term "Bite the Bullet" derived from this type of round which would come with a paper sleeve around it containing the powder for the charge. One would bite the bullet tearing away the paper sleeve, then pour the black powder down the barrel and insert the bullet to load the rifle. As you can read in the link above this type of bullet changed battlefield methods after it was introduced. As the neighborhood is at least 50 years old and I can't imagine anyone firing a mini ball after the houses where built, I think this bullet is more than 50 years old. Likely made from a mold as it lacks the typical hollow centre which would be present if professionally manufactured. This area used to be farms before the land was sold for community development.
