Hi all, I noticed many videos and posts of people using the Zircon M40 (stud finder) as a pinpointer. Soo I decide to go out and buy one at Rona. I have only air tested it yet but seems to work better then the high end pinpointers. So if anyone is looking for a cheap alternative this is what I would suggest.

MetalliScanner® m40Nice video showing its function and capabilities. How much was it? I looked at the Rona site but it's not listed.

39.99$ at Rona, its the only store that carries it in the region. I'll try and make a video when I use it in the field. So far tested it with all kinds of metals, detects all of them with ease. It has about 5 reds lights that light up the closer you get to the object. The blue rod lights up and rings at about 1/2" (depending on the metal). Can be used as a pinpointer or if you turn it on its side it can be swept side to side ( x tageting ) for more precise targeting. If any body needs more information please just let me know. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Hi All,
Used my Zircon M40 last night, unfortunately it was very dark out and could not make a video showing you how it worked. well... it works great. found a site where there was pennies all over at around 1.5 inch depth. Passed the detector to find the general location and used the zircon to precisely locate the pennies, worked like a charm and i was able to make minimal holes. Also made larger plugs for other objects and le the zircon was able to easily find the objects (mostly 44 cal. shells).
Very happy with my purchase.

Sounds like a decent alternative. I find metal detecting equipment to be way over priced because it is a niche market. Alternatives like this can compete and help bring the prices down (I hope). Not to mention the satisfaction of the discovery.
