I've just charged my detector up and I'm heading out here in the UK either Wednesday or Thursday night weather permitting. I will let you know if I find anything of interest. I'm going digging in a wood in an area called hanging stone just down the road from an area called deadman stone. Apparently in the old days they hung people at hanging stone and then moved their body and laid them on deadman stone to let the birds peck their eyes out! So fingers crossed it might produce something.
Regards D4D

Hi all Hope you guys don't mind me posting from uk? Well I got out the other night and found some junk lol, found an old pen knife and a nice brass shell petrol can lid, I also found a few coins but I'm afraid all in bad condition. I only did about a third of the wood so I will head back out when I get chance again soon. regards d4d

No problem posting from the UK With that many coins there is bound to be some silver (or better). You may have to clear up the copper stuff etc... before they started registering. I just watched the latest Time Team episode and they were discussing the penal system in the UK and the period when they hung you for just about anything. That's probably the period of that site. Dig em all

Some of those coins could be silver - the blacker ones? Do the aluminum foil and baking soda thing and see if the tarnish comes off? Wipe them after with a soft cloth and if they're silver most of the black should wipe off and you'll see a dull to brighter silver finish.

Thxs Rick I did a lot of reading about my new detector this weekend and altered a few settings. Also changed the way I ground balanced the machine and it defiantly felt better to use I think I'm starting to understand it now.
